Description

John Rice is a highly regarded artist and commercial illustrator.  His work has been published in Saltwater Sportsmen, Field and Stream, Alaska, New York Times, Esquire, National Geographic, and many others.  He has illustrated many books including Brad Burns’ LLBean Fly Fishing for Striped Bass, Fly Fishing for Saltwater’s Finest, and Closing the Season.  He has also illustrated the soon to be released On the Cains: Atlantic Salmon and Sea Run Brook Trout Fishing On the Miramichi’s Greatest Tributary.

The two paintings being auctioned off were both inspired by early photographs of canoe fishing scenes on the Cains River.  This item, a painting of a canoe with the hooked salmon, is 11 1/4” X 14 1/2 inches in size.  Of particular note is that the painting illustrates the lost art of “hanging by the pole” which was a technique used when dropping down the river.  The painting will be professionally packaged and shipped to the winning bidder so that they can select the matting and framing of their preference.
