John Swan of Portland, Maine grew up with a long family heritage of fishing and upland bird hunting in Maine. His sporting art is so highly thought of that many experts consider him to be the successor to Ogden Pleissner. A little time googling his art on the internet will illustrate why people feel that way.
The Miramichi is very close to John’s heart, and his fishing history there goes back 40 years. This scene on the Cains was sparked by a fall trip some years back that John took to the upper Cains with legendary Wilson’s fishing guide Ernest Long.
On the Cains is a 15×22 watercolor that beautifully captures the spirit of this loveliest of autumn rivers complete with a fine salmon jumping at the end of the line.
The painting is being framed now and we will post a picture of it framed as soon as available. John is very particular about the frame used on his paintings, and you be assured that he will pick one that perfectly matches the spirit of the painting.
