Photographer Stephen Hobson says that this picture is by far his biggest seller. Tourists come from all over the country to see historic Portland Head Light which was built in 1791, and is the oldest lighthouse in Maine – a place with many lighthouses. Stephen has shipped prints of the lighthouse to many locations around the country. This view looks east, and Portland Head is one of the first locations in America to see the morning sun.
This particular morning was a very hot day in August of 2019. The “red sky in morning” conditions that give the photograph its natural appearance only lasted for a few seconds, but Stephen was there to snap this essentially natural picture. The print is 23×16 including a good margin for framing.
